Remembering the Blogposts #5

I have no idea if I’ll have nets after today, so I figure I might as well write this now. I’ve kept up with reviews (well, I think I failed one night. Next day was a painful 120-something, but one endures), and gotten new kanji in quite often. The most crucial factor is generally my sleepiness level. I’ve extended the time for the new day to begin to 7am because of being up so late once, lol.

At the moment (not sure if I’ll be going for new stuff tonight, especially since we’re moving tomorrow) I’m at 1225 kanji in the system. Going decently enough.

Cool kanji: kinou, also himitsu being secrecy secret (or opposite?) is interesting enough. Though I think I learnt that quite a while ago, oh well. I remember seeing the kanji for oil (water radical left plus sprout right) on the seasoning packets for instant ramen as well, lol.

All of this has left me at 56% complete now. Not bad, right!

I’ll have to count the stuff in the last post to see how many new I’ve got in… can I be arsed? Maybe.

Snack Review: BCBG Provencale crisps

bcbg-provencale-crisps

Hey look, I bought flavored crisps. Peruse the ingredient list, realize there’s no maltodextrin or flavor enhancer or paprika powder etc bullshit, be enlightened.

Pricing: 1.12 EUR at a les Mousquetaires (I think) Intermarché.

Amount: 125g

Ingredients: Potato, Oleic sunflower oil, Herbes de Provence (thyme, savory, rosemary, basil, marjoram), Camargue sea salt.

Nutritional whatever: not present, diabetics world over may now rage at not quite being able to dose correctly. Apparently it’s on their website but who wants to go that far?

Additional packaging info: Participe à Eco-emballage (participant in an eco-friendly packaging initiative… probably.) Cuite au chaudron (cauldron-cooked).

Environmental factors: was drinking chilled (by ice glacons) Coca-Cola Light, lime flavor.
In a tent in France, sitting cross-legged on the floor of my section, fairly comfortable.

These crisps have a fairly short flavor burst, followed by a rich fatty flavor and earthen tones. The herbs can sometimes be tasted, but the flavor tends to be drowned out by the crisps after eating a few. I think they contribute even then, though. Mostly rosemaryish, I think. Then again, I’m no expert on herbs; basically just think herbes de Provence.

The earthy tones arent that strong, and don’t leave a long aftertaste. The herbs are great when you do taste them. The richness of the middle-stage flavor is probably the best part, and made me really want moar. All in all, I’d say they are fairly exceptional. Wouldn’t quite go up to very good level, but it’s better than good… so.

Rated 7.5/10 (Good–>x<–Very Good).

Snack review: SIBELL Chips Croustillantes (salted)

sibell-croustillantes

I sporadically did these on my old blog for a short period. I always wanted to do this when I traveled and experienced new tastes and stuff… and now I can!

Alright, info first:

Pricing: 1.50 EUR at a Carrefour in Provence, France. Reference: Lays a L’ancienne was 1.28 EUR for 125g.

Amount: 200g

Ingredients: Potato (62.8%), Sunflower oil (36%), Salt (1.2%). May contain traces of gluten, milk and mustard.

Nutritional whatever: has the usual ~1/10 saturated fat balance of sunflower oil, carbs at 50.7g per 100g.

Additional packaging info: Depuis 1956. En Provence! Pommes de terre origine France,
fabriqué en France.

Environmental factors: was drinking chilled (by ice glacons) pepsi max, cherry flavor.
Minor headache/pressure, which I kinda forgot when eating which was nice in retrospect.
In a tent in France, sitting cross-legged on the floor of my section, fairly comfortable.

Has the usual, fat and salty burst of flavor you know potato crips for at the start, which fades moderately quickly  into an earthy aftertaste. Sometimes a bit of an unpleasant cardboard effect at the roof of my mouth at the start of a chew. Reminds me of OLW’s offering in Sweden. The fade is a bit quicker than most other French crisps, making the crisp feel a bit dry.

It’s a bit of a change-up from the norm, however, and the price is nothing to sneeze at being somewhat better than my usual go-to Lays a l’Ancienne.

I recommend them to people who like an earthy aftertaste, and people who are bored with the usual maximum-flavor-burst type that Lays et al. provide. If you like these, you might like the Swedish OLW potato crisps.

Rating: 4/10 (slightly below average). The taste is pretty much standard for this kind of crisp and crisps in general. However, the cardboard-ish effect is ungood, though not horrible.

Depressingly I couldn’t find any only-salted Tyrell’s, which was otherwise down to ~2 EUR from the dizzying heights of 3 EUR it was at on my last trip (if I remember correctly).

From what I remember they weren’t really worth the price last time I tried them, but were decent enough.

Anyway, that’s hopefully my next tasting objective. Or I could get swayed by one of those random PRODUITS REGIONAUX ARTISANALE thingies if it’s cheap enough.

Not that those usually turn out that great.

Still at it? What am I, a wizard?

After a ramp-up slacking period, I’m now actually going aheadish with the 30-a-day plan I set out for Summer. Realistically this means I could get up to ~1500/2200 by the time I get home, which isn’t too bad. Of course, failing is always an option.

Most recent primitive is 人. Since you’re supposed to associate it with a certain memorable person, I picked my osananajimi and soulmate. So much reminiscence of my memories with her, man. Also an affair with a cow which was very bestial and tribadistic, because memorable stories. Kind of sad she’s not with me any more and stuff. Ah well, ’twas a long time ago.

So anyway, studied 114 cards in 66 minutes today, one review pass and one learning pass. I can feel myself getting better at imaginationing stories. Hopefully they are still good enough to last, as I take less time as well.

I’ll fite u soon enuff, Meph 😛

Kanji in system atm: 1052
Total increase from last week: 143

We are hilarious amount of ahead of schedule at the moment as far as I can tell, which is frankly ridiculous. I feel tired as hell, but maybe I’ll be able to go through my 65 reviews (in the end, I completed my Sakupet marathon (10/10 masterpiece) but was p. much nodding off while trying the reviews so that didn’t work out.)

Actually I’m pretty surprised at how successful this has all been. Basically VNTS and those RtK reviews were pretty much the only thing I did /not/ do, which makes me impressed at my stamina (I mean holy cock a bike ride amongst all that? After no sleep?)

Pretty much all that’s left is remembering to get the three pairs of footwear I desire. Also, checking out the battery situation (remember this, dad is slacking!) and it’s also nice that I remembered the power strip that we need moderately much that’s usually in my room and stuffs.

Surprisingly successful so far; I successfully finished my sakupet marathon (and I’m very happy that I did given the quality of the last 5 or so episodes), did practically all the stuff listed except vnts. The Lamune partial is up, I managed to exchange stuffs for euros, got my diabeetus supplies…

All that is left is more or less things that have to be done next morning due to their nature (packing my faptop, headphones, etc into my carrying case / backpack hybrid thingy and shit.)

RtK reviews not done though. I guess that’s my next thingy, and after that I’ll prolly go for some hours of Ayakashibito. Or crash. Crashing seems more likely.

I also didn’t find my headphone case, which is annoying because I just know I put it somewhere for good cool safekeeping at some point and it’s presumably buries beneath a stack of whateverness at the moment… I’m having to clean, here. It’s terriburu. And I might not find it anyway…
